They also understood the reason behind the formation and the shelter constructed in a particular way. They further pondered over why their homes have a specific architecture and illustrated it beautifully. It helped the students to get a global view of shelters. They grasped the concept of Conjunctions in grammar which was integrated with the lesson done in Literature. The other grammar concepts which were taken up and practiced were Prepositions and Interjections. In writing, the students learnt the format of Paragraph writing and practiced writing on few topics. The class continuously worked on learning new words in an attempt to build on their vocabulary. MathematicsStudents continued their learning of Multiplication concept and different strategies to solve multiplication sums. They enjoyed trying to tell the multiplication tables through finger tricks and watched videos on the same. They challenged themselves and quizzed their friends by asking questions on multiplication tables. Students still need to memorize the table facts to enable them to calculate faster. They were introduced to Division as repeated subtraction and equal grouping. They learnt tricks to calculate division by 10s and 100s, short division and long division. They understood the terms used in division and the check method. Science“The aim of science is to seek the simplest explanations of complex facts.” With this guiding motto, the students of grade 3 experimented science concepts based on Forces such as push, pull, gravity, acceleration, friction etc. They made catapult to launch the ball at the farthest distance, to understand the relation between force applied and distance travelled. To understand the concept of friction, the students did Balloon Rocket activity. They also performed several more activities such as ‘Pull with a pulley’, ‘Charge the scale’ in which the students used their scales and rub it with their hair to pick small pieces of paper by it to understand static electric force. In the sub topic – Sound, the student did ‘Musical Bottle’ activity. They also attended special session in music room to catch the vibrations of different instruments on softwares. In the topic ‘Light’ they learned to identify different sources of light, luminous and non-luminous objects and shadow formation. Social ScienceStudents learnt about the importance of transport and different means of transport through a comparison between the modes of transport used by ‘Early Humans’ Vs ‘Humans of Today’. The evolution of transport was shared as a timeline with students which gave them an insight of how the transport system has evolved over the years. Students’ prior knowledge was assessed on their understanding of the difference between land, air and water transport using probing and engaging questions. Students learnt about the use/role of transport to facilitate trade and communication along the ‘Silk Route’ through a video. Students tried to read and comprehend an aeroplane & train ticket. The topic ‘Means of communication’ was introduced in the class by asking students to list ways by which they can connect and communicate with their friends living far away. Students learnt to identify and differentiate between the different means of communication through a class discussion. A video helped students understand the evolution of communication i.e. using pigeons to communicate to the present era i.e. using internet. A role play activity in class where ‘customer care’ scenario of a sender and receiver was enacted in class which helped the students understand the communication process in detail. ICTThe students were introduced to Scratch application in which they learnt about the simple movements of ‘sprite’. They used different motion blocks to move the sprite. They learnt how to save and then open the saved project on this application. RoboticsUNIT TOPIC: ENERGY TRANSFORMATION Activity 3: LEGO WINDMILL In this session, students explored the windmill and its working. They also explored the conversion of wind energy to mechanical energy by creating a LEGO WINDMILL to demonstrate the relationship between the shape of the blade and movement of the windmill and how the shape of the blade affects the speed of the windmill. They also tested whether it can lift the load or not to observe the transformation of energy from wind to mechanical energy. Life SkillIn the month of October, students studied ‘emotions’ in detail. They made a booklet “Inside-out” which included 4 to 5 pages. Students learnt different emotions interlinked with each other. They also drew and coloured different emoji’s illustrating different emotions (page 1 & 2). Few students from Grade 3 participated in the Inter-School Dance Drama competition held at DPS School sector 84, Gurugram on 17 th Oct 2019 and were adjudged 1st amidst tough competition. DramaStudents learnt about sound, moment, appearance, body moments and voice modulation as per the characters allotted to them. Drama games were also introduced like ‘The Creature', ‘ I am Jack’ and’ The Splat’ to make them understand more about Drama and also they performed situational acting to overcome their hesitation. Drama Games also helped to improve their presence of mind and overcome their stage fear. Their awe-struck performance on 'Exploring the Universe' helped them clinch first prize in Inter School Fest at DPS 84. Physical EducationCRICKET, SWIMMING AND GYMNASTICS

They practiced sums and word problems to strengthen their understanding of the concept. SCIENCEIn sync with the theme of the month, students learned about the importance of healthy food. They categorised sources of food (food that we obtain from plants and animals). They observed the food components and understood the importance of nutrition and balanced diet for healthy lifestyle. This helped them realise the nutrition value of each food group that we get from the market. They also placed the food items in the food pyramid to understand the nutritional value of each food item. SOCIAL SCIENCEStudents understood the importance of plants and learnt to identify the parts of the plant that are eaten as food. In continuation, they studied about the different landforms (e.g. mountains, plains, desert, plateau, island and peninsula) and the types of plants found in these different landforms. They understood the difference between weather and climate through a class discussion. In conjunction to the theme of the month ‘Food’ students started their journey of ‘Food’ from home. To understand about the food diversity in India, students were asked to bring one food item of their native state, which they shared with everyone during their lunch break. They also had informal discussion during lunch break about their food with their peers. Students were able to relate their daily life to what they were learning – from the methods of cooking, different spices used, different vessels being used for different cooking methods. They were also able to differentiate between cooked and raw food. The five food groups were discussed through a chart (fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy products and meat and egg). Their understanding of food groups was done through a collage of food groups in its respective categories. As an extension of their learning, they also learned the journey of food from ‘Farm to Plate’. ICTStudents revised the topics done till date - Introduction to Windows, Tux Paint and MS Word.
